In a bid to ensure continued service delivery during the current third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Economic Development and Spatial Planning Department has worked towards improving communication mechanisms and operating procedures.
The most recent of these improvements is in relation to law enforcement by the Building Control Unit.
With effect from the 1st of July 2021, the public is encouraged to report suspected illegal buildings or building violations in any part of the City by sending an email to this address: complaintsbc@tshwane.gov.za
The email must indicate the street address, the ERF number of the property as well as the description of the suspected illegal building and building violation.
Reporting such incidents will assist the City to improve its law enforcement responsibility and will also enable the City to better respond to complaints received.
Upon receiving such complaints by email, the department will open a case docket and will acknowledge receipt of the complaint. The complaint will then be investigated and if the complaint is found to be invalid, the complainant will be informed accordingly.
In the event that the complaint is found to be valid, a notice of a contravention will be served in terms of the National Building Regulations and Standards Act. If the offender fails to comply with the conditions of the notice, the City will take legal action.
Throughout this process the complainant will be kept informed and continuously provided with feedback by email.
The City encourages the use of this email system as it reduces the need for the public to visit our offices to report such incidents, thus minimising the risk of Covid-19 exposure to the public and staff.
